Covering/Watering Unit

The Covering/Watering Unit, when added to a seeding line, provides a uniform media top coating and water distribution to trays exiting the seeder. To reduce waste, the application is only on when a tray is present. The vermiculite drum hopper can be adjusted to control the flow. The water unit has two laser drilled water-bars for consistent water application. The Mayer Bark Topper uses parallel belts to rotate the pots as they advance through the machine, resulting in an even distribution of materials in each pot. An additional vibrating unit pushes any excess material back into the hopper to be re-used and any persistent residue is removed by two spring-loaded scrapers. The frequency-controlled motors can be continuously adjusted as needed to adapt to various pot sizes.

The Topping Machine is suitable for processing soil and other topping materials. The machine accommodates both round and square pots and is available in both a left- and right-hand version. Two fixed wheels along with two swivel wheels allow the machine to be moved easily and quickly. The machine can be simply integrated into any system with conveyor belts, and the frequency control makes it easy to accurately set the speed of the machine. Another unique feature of the machine is that the toppings are distributed across the pot using two scraping pins. A spring leveler, that is adjustable in height, is positioned above the pots to skim off the excess topping material, which is then returned to the storage bin.
