Expanded metal benching is built from galvanized materials for durability and designed for operations that need open-air growing surfaces, propagation, retail, and drip-fed potted crops. The open mesh promotes air pruning at the root zone and keeps airflow moving through the canopy. Every bench is custom-sized to fit your layout, with options for stationary, rolling, or glider configurations.

  • Air Pruning That Builds Stronger Root Systems

The open expanded metal surface lets air reach the bottom of the pot, naturally pruning roots at the container edge. This encourages denser, more fibrous root development — which means healthier transplants and stronger finished plants.

Custom-Sized to Fit Your Layout Exactly

No size is out of the question. Every bench is custom-built to suit your greenhouse layout, from length and width to height. Whether you’re building on soil, ground cover, or concrete — on posts or fastened to the floor — the system is configured to your space.

Raised or Flattened Metal — Choose Your Surface

Expanded metal tops come in two finishes. Raised expanded metal is stronger and supports heavier loads. Flattened expanded metal provides a smoother surface for sliding trays without snagging. Cross supports are spaced at 24” for raised tops and 16” for flattened, maintaining the same structural strength.

    Built to Handle Uneven Floors

All benches include 6–8” of height adjustment in the legs, so growers can level tables on uneven greenhouse floors without shimming or floor prep. The galvanized steel frame resists corrosion and stands up to wet greenhouse environments.

Questions?
We're here to help.

It depends on how you’re using the bench. Raised expanded metal is stronger — better for heavier pots and production environments. Flattened expanded metal gives you a smoother surface that’s easier to slide trays across without snagging. Both options use the same frame and can be custom-sized.
All expanded metal benches include 6–8” of height adjustment in the legs, so you can level them on uneven surfaces without additional floor prep. Benches can sit on soil, ground cover, posts, or be fastened directly to a concrete floor.
The expanded metal frame is the same structure used for flood benching and trough benching — so yes, the system can support different irrigation methods. If you need ebb-and-flood capability, talk to your AdeptAg representative about the right bench-top and liner configuration.
